Late Games: Sharpe Passes Van To Win
RUSK -- Tyler Sharpe went 17-of-27 for 235 yards and two touchdowns, helping guide Van past Rusk, 31-10, on Friday night.

Van (2-0) receiver Blake Pennington caught four passes for 118 yards and a score. He had a 70-yard reception called back.

Vandals running back Michael Terry finished with 98 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns, plus returned a kickoff to the Rusk 5-yard line to set up a score.

Rusk fell to 0-2.


Edgewood 48, Canton 40
EDGEWOOD -- Weston Jameson torched the Canton secondary for 482 yards passing and seven touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs to a shootout win.

Canton quarterback Chance Wallace completed 22 of 40 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns with Roy Denbow completing 2-of-3 for 97 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort.

Gladewater 33, Mount Vernon 16
MOUNT VERNON -- Cameron Price rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns, leading Gladewater past Mount Vernon.

Cardarian Lewis, who led Gladewater's rushing game in the season opener, finished with 82 yards on the ground.

Gladewater improved to 2-0, while Mount Vernon dropped to 0-1.


Athens 21, Mabank 14
ATHENS -- Stephen Blakemore scored three touchdowns, including one on a 61-yard punt return to lead the Athens Hornets to a win over Mabank.

Athens (2-0) scored first on a 10-yard run by Blakemore with 6:53 left in the first.

The Hornets went ahead 14-0 with 2:45 remaining in the quarter on Blakemore's punt return.

Mabank (1-1) made it 14-7 with 1:24 left in the first on a 9-yard pass from Kolton Browning to Trey Smith.

Athens went ahead 21-7 with 2:06 left in the half when Blakemore scored on an 8-yard run.

The Panthers answered with a fourth-quarter touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Browning to Anthony Hendrix.


Carthage 33, Henderson 3
CARTHAGE -- Dwight Smith rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries and Carthage beat Henderson.

Carthage (2-0) wasted little time getting points on the new scoreboard as Smith went 60 yards for a score to give Carthage a lead just nine minutes into the game.

Smith had a 7-yard scoring run one play after Caleb Pope intercepted Henderson quarterback Tyrell Jenkins on the next drive.

Henderson's Jessie Rocha got the Lions on the board on the next possession with a 30-yard field goal following a 68-yard kickoff return by Telvin Fryman.

But that was the last bright spot for Henderson (0-1) as the Bulldogs added a Smith 1-yard run just two minutes before the half to make it 19-3 at the break.

Trevor Murphy had a 5-yard touchdown reception and O'Bryan Washington added a 13-yard run to finish the Bulldogs' scoring.

For the game, Carthage had 277 yards rushing on 44 carries. Jenkins led the Lions' offense by going 15-for-29 for 155 yards.

The Lions finished with 276 yards as a team.


Big Sandy 54, Alba-Golden 6
RUSK -- Ronny Chalk ran for 228 yards and three touchdowns to help Big Sandy down Alba-Golden.

Chalk, who rushed 12 times, also recorded a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Big Sandy's Trent Hodge had nine carries for 101 yards and a score.

Big Sandy evened its record at 1-1, while Alba-Golden fell to 0-2.


Dawson 34, Cross Roads 6
DAWSON -- Dawson broke open a scoreless game in the second quarter, and then cruised to a win against Cross Roads.

Cross Roads fell to 0-2.
