Temperatures Should Start Warming Up
Skies cleared in the area on Thursday as the remnants of Gustav moved farther northeast.
Thursday's temperatures ran about 6 degrees above Wednesday's, and were still about 4 degrees below normal. Slight warming is likely over the next few days, with temperatures running near to slightly below normal through the weekend, and near normal next week.
Low readings Thursday fell into the 60s at most stations, with daytime highs running from the 70s where the clouds persisted longest to the high 80s elsewhere.
A high-pressure ridge was building in behind the Thursday morning cold front. This should keep conditions pleasant through Saturday.
There were a few light showers over the eastern counties as the front crossed Thursday morning, with amounts running a few hundredths of an inch or less at those stations which received any.
Thursday's winds were northwesterly at 10-15 mph with higher gusts, and should become northerly and then northeasterly at 5-10 mph over the next couple of days.
A weak cold front will approach the region Monday night or Tuesday, with slight shower chances. Beyond that, it will likely be late week before a strong storm system and associated cold front cross with the next significant chance for rain.
