September 4: Reader Examines McCain's Credentials
In a recent letter, Bob Fowler advised voters to examine the candidates' background "... to determine what sort of individual we will be selecting to lead our nation for the next four years." Let's have a look at Sen. McCain's background to give some insight into his character and judgment, clearly traits of critical importance for the leader of the greatest nation on the planet.

McCain graduated fifth from the bottom of his class from the Naval Academy, possibly not because of lack of intellect, but because by his own admission, he was more interested in partying than studying.

McCain freely admits that he was married to his first wife, and the father of three small children (one biological and two adopted), when he started an adulterous affair with Cindy, now his second wife. What does this say about his character?

McCain has voted in the Senate in support of George Bush's agenda 90 percent of the time. Anyone who believes that Bush has been right 90 percent of the time has some serious flaws in judgment or is living in a fantasy world.

When asked about his choice of a vice presidential running mate, McCain stated the "... person who I select would be most prepared to take my place. And that would be the key criteria."

Does he now ask us to believe that an ex-mayor of a small town in Alaska, who has been governor of the state for 18 months and has shown no interest in foreign affairs, is the best qualified person in this country to be president and commander in chief, after him?

McCain showed his true character and judgment. His paramount concern is winning at any cost, up to and including potentially placing control of the government in the hands of a totally unprepared person.
