Outside a few spotty afternoon showers, Thursday was another seasonably warm and rather humid day in the region.

One of these showers intensified into a thunderstorm, which affected East Tyler just after 5 p.m. The city gauge picked up 0.02 inch of rainfall, while the airport measured none. This pattern should persist through the weekend until Tropical Storm Gustav's possible effect on the region's weather during the middle of next week.

A weak cold front is forecast to become stationary in or near the region on Friday night and Saturday. This should increase shower chances slightly over the weekend, and bring a shift of winds into the east Friday. By Sunday, this front will have dissipated, and the shower chances will again decrease.

Tropical Storm Gustav was west of Jamaica Thursday evening, and was forecast into the Gulf of Mexico sometime Saturday. The storm should take a northwestward track, and make landfall between Lake Charles and Houma, La., as a Category 3 hurricane sometime Tuesday.

Rain is possible in East Texas as early as Tuesday afternoon, and is most likely Wednesday into Thursday.

Temperatures will remain slightly above normal into Labor Day. Thursday's temperatures ran a couple of degrees warmer than Wedne-sday's, and about 3 degrees above normal.
