It’s Official: 2008 Food & Kitchen Show Draws Thousands On A Rainy Day

The attendance of nearly 3,000 people proved the success of the first Food and Kitchen Show held Aug. 19 at Harvey Convention Center, according to sponsors: the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Brookshire's and Go Texan.

"Given the weather, the one thing we've learned about people in Tyler," said Jeff Noble, Tyler Paper advertising director, "is that they will not let the weather slow them down when there's a learning opportunity or an opportunity to enjoy good food.
"Next year, we will be bigger and better."
Donations to the East Texas Food Bank by attendees totaled more than 1,700 pounds.

Drawings were held throughout the 10-hour event. A grand prize winner took home new dining room furniture, and other winners walked away with cash prizes.
The grand prize of a dinning room table and six chairs was given by Adams Furniture and awarded to Dave and June McCallen.
A VIP trip for four to the Texas Motor Speedway was given to Sharon Beck.
Bobbie Thornton and Monica Key both took home weekend trips to Sam's Town Casino.
A random drawing determined the winner of a sandwich contest, sponsored by Flowers Baking Co. The $200 first-place prize went to Irene Wilson, followed by Betty Moore with $150 and Linny Gurganas, $100.
Entrants submitted recipes for sandwiches using Flower's products.
