Mercury Passes 90 For First Time In A Week
The temperature reached 90 in Tyler Friday for the first time in more than a week, as the mid-week storm system continued shifting off to the northeast.
It did bring another narrow band of showers and thunderstorms, which brought heavy rainfall from southeastern Wood County northeastward into western Bowie County before dawn.
In this 15-mile wide band, amounts of one to nearly three inches were common.
Otherwise, there were a few showers over the southeast Friday afternoon.
The band formed near Tyler, with the airport picking up 0.32 inch and the city 0.05 inch between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.
Measurable rain has now occurred on five consecutive days, but Friday should be the last for widespread and significant precipitation.
Interestingly, Friday was the first thunderstorm in the week's rain event.
The five-day storm total in the city is slightly over two inches, while the airport storm total is about 2.5 inches.
Skies were cloudy Friday morning, and became partly cloudy by late-morning and continuing through the afternoon.
Friday's temperatures ran about 3 degrees warmer than Thursday's, and were near normal. Normal temperatures are likely through Monday.
