Showers Likely To Continue Into Sunday
Shower activity was much less Thursday than was the case the past three days, with scattered mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely to continue into Sunday. The upper air low, which has been responsible for this week's rains, "opened up" and moved rapidly northeastward on Thursday.
After Sunday, the remnant low pressure from Tropical Storm Fay will influence the area's weather. It will turn surface winds into the northeast behind a weak cold front, dry out the middle atmosphere, and warm temperatures because of subsiding air around the western fringe of the circulation.
Shower chances should return late next week as another and probably rather weak storm system crosses the continent from west to east.
Light rain fell in Tyler Wednesday evening in association with the first upper air disturbance. The city measured 0.02 inch, and the airport 0.14 inch. This brings the city's storm total to 2.03 inches, and the airport's to 2.19 inches. Longview's storm total is 2.17 inches.
Thursday's temperatures ran about 3 degrees above Wednesday's, and were about 2 degrees below normal. Near normal temperatures are forecast through the weekend.
Low temperatures Thursday morning were in the 70s, where they are forecast to be through Sunday morning.
High readings were in the 80s to near 90, with low to mid-90 degree readings likely through Sunday.
Thursday's winds were southerly at 5-10 mph, with similar winds likely until the direction shifts into the northeast Saturday afternoon with the approach of the remnant of Tropical Storm Fay.
Thursday's average relative humidity was 71 percent, with lower values likely Friday through Sunday.
Tyler's high temperature of 88 came at 2:05 p.m., following the day's low of 74 at 5:12 a.m.
