As Rain Leaves, Warmer Weather Returns
The slow-moving upper air storm system, which has brought rain to the area since Monday, was beginning to weaken and shift away from the area Wednesday night. Nonetheless, lingering moisture and lifting energy will still bring scattered showers and thunderstorms through Saturday, mainly in the afternoons.
After that, a sea-breeze front is forecast to become active early next week. That will continue slight shower chances. Then, by the middle of next week, another of the slow-moving storm systems is forecast into the region, increasing shower chances.
The heaviest rains of Wednesday were concentrated over the southern and eastern counties. Longview measured a record daily rainfall of 1.25 inches Wednesday. The previous August 20 record rainfall was 0.37 inch in 1908.
A few showers and thunderstorms were forming late Wednesday afternoon northwest of Tyler, with heavy rain falling at Mineola at 7 p.m. Otherwise, skies began to clear over much of the region after mid-day.
This permitted temperatures to rise into the 80s for afternoon high readings, with similar high temperatures likely Thursday and Friday.
Morning low readings were again in the lower to middle 70s, with similar low readings forecast through Saturday morning.
