More Heavy Rain Expected Today
Heavy rains fell over much of East Texas Monday night and Tuesday, and more is forecast through today. A flood watch is displayed through the entire region.
North and west of a Paris-Centerville-Cameron line, the watch continues through 7 a.m. today, and may be extended. East of the Paris-Centerville portion of the line, the watch continues through 1 a.m. Thursday.
A band of extremely heavy rain moved slowly northeastward across the western counties Tuesday morning. Flood warnings were required for parts of Leon, Freestone, Falls, Robertson, and Limestone counties, and a flood advisory for Van Zandt County. In the warning area, as much as eight inches of rain fell, while two to four inches were common in Anderson, Henderson, Van Zandt, and Navarro counties, according to radar estimates.
The heaviest observed rainfall was 8.49 inches at Bremond in Robertson County about 120 miles southwest of Tyler. Just north of Bremond, a gauge on the Brazos River (also in Robertson County) measured 6.33 inches. In Tyler, light to moderate rain fell between about 8 a.m. and shortly after 1 p.m. The city measured 1.48 inches, while 1.67 inches fell at the airport.
Additional rains of between one and three inches are likely through this afternoon. A flood watch means that high water is possible in poorly- drained urbanized areas, and along the banks of small streams.
