Heavy Rain Expected Much of Today
Heavy and widespread rain is likely in much of the East Texas area through early Tuesday.
Sunday was a day of sharp contrasts in the region.
Rain fell much of the day over the northern third, holding temperatures in the 70s and lower 80s.
South of Interstate 20, conditions were dry. Along the immediate I-20 corridor, temperatures rose into the lower 90s.
Farther south, the mercury rose into the high 90s with heat index values topping 100. Nacogdoches reported a maximum heat index value of 105.
With winds aloft down the Plains still northwesterly, a series of upper air disturbances were pulling a cold front southward.
The disturbances and front intersected a strong flow of moist air just above the surface.
The showers and thunderstorms were confined mainly northeast of a Sulphur Springs-Longview-Carthage line Sunday afternoon.
The activity was forecast to weaken after sunset, but re-develop before dawn Monday, and closer to East Texas. Sunday's activity had formed over Northern Oklahoma early Sunday.
