Robert E. Lee Student To Receive Eagle Scout Honors August 17
Kevin Kelly will be recognized at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor at 3 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Founders Fine Arts Center at Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler.
For his Eagle Scout service project, Kevin coordinated the purchase and installation of corked map rails in the kindergarten, first- and second-grade hallways at Andy Woods Elementary School in Tyler.
Teachers of those classrooms will use the map rails to attractively display the artwork of their students for viewing by other students, parents, visitors and staff.
Kevin is a member of Troop 369, chartered through Pollard United Methodist Church. He began in scouting as a Tiger Cub and progressed through the ranks of Wolf, Bear and Webelo scout, earning the Arrow of Light, the highest rank in Cub Scouts.
In his Boy Scout troop, Kevin has held the positions of Patrol Leader, Troop Historian, Bugler and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He has attended BSA summer camps at Camp Frank Rand in Chimayo, N.M., Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Ark., and Hale Scout Reservation in Talihina, Okla.
He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has participated in Webelos Crossing-Over ceremonies for several Cub Scout Packs within the Okee-Tuklo District of the East Texas Area Council.
Kevin is a junior at Robert E. Lee High School where he is a trumpet section leader in the Red Raider Marching Band and member of the Wind Ensemble.
He is an orientation leader in the Red Raider Roundup Program for freshmen at REL, a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and REL Bible Club officer.
Kevin is also an active member of the Senior High Youth group at Marvin United Methodist Church.
He is the son of Cindy and Bruce Ballard of Tyler and the late Tom Kelly. He is the grandson of Don and Barbara Osada, of Flint, Myrna Kelly, of Clinton, Miss., and Marian Ballard, of Tyler.
