July 26: Full Attention
Regarding the recent multiple car pile-up on westbound I-20, the DPS patrolman stated speed and wet roads were the causes.

I disagree. I believe everyone involved should have been issued tickets for the following:

Failure to obey warning signs (work area, lane closure ahead); failure to reduce speed due to inclement weather; failure to maintain an assured clear distance from the vehicle ahead.

This was really not an "accident." This was a total failure in common sense by everyone involved. They always taught us in the military that, when driving, there are five people to watch out for: The person in front, left, right, behind and most important the one who hasn't got there yet. Driving requires "full" attention not "part time".
