Hurricane Dolly Not Expected to Affect East Texas
Tropical Storm Dolly formed in the Western Caribbean Sea Sunday afternoon, but it was expected to have little direct effect on East Texas as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico at mid-week.

Sunday was warm and dry. Showers had not developed in the area by late afternoon under a strengthened upper air high pressure ridge.

This should keep conditions dry Monday.

By Tuesday, a few afternoon showers could develop, with the best chances coming Wednesday and Thursday.

By that time, winds aloft will have become northwesterly down the Plains, and disturbances in this flow could bring afternoon showers both Wednesday and Thursday.

Dolly might provide some enhanced moisture, which could increase areal coverage.

Sunday’s analysis suggested Dolly would come ashore, perhaps as a minimal hurricane, near Brownsville on Thursday.

The sea-breeze was weak Sunday, with showers only making it about 75 miles inland.

In addition, there were a couple of isolated showers east of Texarkana in Southwest Arkansas late Sunday.

Sunday’s temperatures ran a couple of degrees warmer than Saturday’s, and were about 2 degrees above normal. Temp-eratures Monday and Tuesday should be similar.
