Bible’s Notorious Women Study Beginning Sunday
A “Bad Girls of the Bible” study will begin at 9:50 a.m. Sunday at the fellowship hall of University Christian Church, 3400 Old Omen Road. The study will be based on the book “Bad Girls of the Bible: Exploring Women of Questionable Virtue,” said information from the church.

The study runs until August 10 and focuses on “those notorious women we love to hate.”

Eve, Potiphar’s wife, Delilah and Jezebel are some of the Bible personalities studied.

The Rev. Coretha Loughridge, area minister for the Northeast Area of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), will the study leader. Call (903) 566-0466 for information.

  • Bethany Word of Life Tabernacle, 6808 Paluxy Drive, will hold “Faith Conference 2008” from Wednesday to Saturday. Seminars will be held at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.

  • A “going away family picnic” will be held for Father Eduardo Nevares from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Tyler State Park in Picnic Area no. 3. Entrance to the park is $3 a person and children under 12-years-old are free. Swimming will be available.

  • “Bring your own fixin’s,” said information from event organizers. “Bring the family for a day of food, fun, praise and worship.”

  • The Starrville Church of the Living God will hold a “7th Anniversary Pastor and Wife Celebration” at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Friends and members are invited. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow.

  • Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 11357 County Road 348, will hold its “Annual Revival” beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday and continuing at 7:30 nightly, Monday – Friday. The Rev. Ernest

    The Rev. W.R. Ricks, pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church of Lufkin will be the evangelist for the week. The host pastor is the Rev. James A. Johnson, Jr.

  • The Youth-N-Action of Shady Grove Baptist Church, 12480 FM 14, will hold a car wash at the church from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

  • The Youth Department of the People’s Missionary Baptist Church, 2908 Bellwood Road, Will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

  • Sunday is Family & Friends Day. At 3 p.m. the Rev. Kennedy Young, Jr., of College Hill Baptist Church will be the guest speaker. The deadline to submit items to Around East Texas is Tuesday at 5 p.m.
