Gohmert Receives 'A In English' Award
Congressman Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, has received the "A in English" award from U.S. English, Inc., a group dedicated to "preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States."

Gohmert was a co-sponsor of H.R. 997, the English Language Unity Act, and he has consistently voted to allow employers to enact English-in-the-workplace policies.

"Since our nation's founding, the many cultures that make up the United States have helped to develop this country into a strong world leader," Gohmert said. "However, for our nation to remain intact we must have a common, unifying thread running through it, and the common thread that has and will strengthen unity among our diverse population is the English language."


New Mayor To Speak
Tyler's new mayor will speak at the monthly meeting of the Tyler Young Republicans Club at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Republican Party Headquarters, 3923 S. Broadway Ave.

GOP Women Meet
The Smith County Republican Women's Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Traditions Restaurant, 6205 S. Broadway Ave.

The speaker will be Randy Hatch, a retired police officer and soldier who served in Afghanistan. He'll speak on the War on Terror.

Wood GOP Women Gather
Wood County Treasurer Beckie Cannon will be guest speaker at the May meeting of Republican Women of Wood County,11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dinner Bell Ranch Restaurant, Texas Highway 37 South in Quitman.


Fair Tax Day Slated
The Tyler Young Republican club will host a forum on the Fair Tax (a national sales tax) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27 at the Smith County GOP Headquarters, 3923 S. Broadway Ave. The featured speaker will be Sean Healy.
